The Blanket Scarf Saga: Part Two

February 3, 2016

For the past couple of months,

I have been in serious denial about winter.

It’s gotten to the point where my boss comes by every morning and asks me if I’ve bought a real winter jacket yet. The answer? No, of course not. I’m holding on to my memories of fall and holding off on getting a puffy winter coat until I absolutely have to. I’m usually not this unpractical, but lately we’ve had a mix of both warm and cold spells that have given rise to my hope that spring is around the corner. To make an investment in a proper winter jacket just doesn’t seem necessary at this point…or so I keep telling myself. After all I’m a tropical weather girl at heart.

Fortunately, someone decided to invent the blanket scarfone part scarf, one part cozy blanket – and I’m obsessed. This is THE most important layering piece a cold weather fashionista needs to have in her closet. It’s extremely versatile, can be dressed up or down and keeps you warm enough to get away with a leather jacket on a cold albeit not freezing day.

Bonus points for a fun pattern like this plaid which makes me feel very London chic. One of my best friends, Emily, who lived in London for a year always says I dress like a Londoner with my affinity for black tights. Hey, I’ll take it!

Oh by the way,

did you see who’s wearing skinny jeans?

This is a proud lymphie moment for me for many reasons. For one, finding a pair of skinny jeans that fit has seriously felt like winning the lottery. So you can imagine my excitement when I found this pair of Levi’s. FINALLY, I could have this staple piece that I’ve coveted for so long in my wardrobe. But one problem remained…

I still wasn’t really comfortable with how I looked in them. I’d wear them out here and there but with a nagging feeling of insecurity still lingering in the back of my head.

Well, the other day Hannah and I got together to shoot this look. I’d planned on wearing my tried and true boyfriend jeans. But alas when it came time for me to get dressed they were nowhere to be found. I ransacked my bedroom and closet until I realized that they’d mistakenly gone into the wash. I supposed God does work in mysterious ways.

At that point I was out of time and decided these skinny jeans were my next best option.

I reluctantly put them on.

For a moment I felt slightly panicked that I’d be photographed in these…that everyone would see just how big my leg had gotten. And then…

I remembered the overwhelming sense of pride and encouragement I had felt when I shared my lymphedema story with all of you – fellow lymphies and non-lymphies alike. I felt empowered and excited to show you how much internal progress I had made with my own self-confidence.

I felt empowered at the thought of empowering you and I wiggled into those jeans with a revived sense of confidence and purpose.
