There’s something different about me.. I now have red hair! Believe it or not, but I had not done anything with my hair (not even a cut) since the beginning of last August. That was when I colored it completely blonde. It took me so long to cut and color it again because I was tossing between the idea of staying light and becoming more of a “full-time” blonde, or going back to dark. I ended up going dark, but had to change it up with this awesome red color. There is a part of me that is always craving change. Not only in terms of life changes, but also in my outer appearance.

When I was younger I developed a love for acting and my favorite part of it was being given the opportunity to be different people. I loved being able to try on another identity, and as a result be able to see from a different perspective. I also really enjoyed the experience of having people look and treat me differently because of the character I was portraying. I remember in middle school feeling like I was able to escape my insecurities by playing other people on stage. In high school I experienced something close to this when I began experimenting with style. It was almost like I could transform into whoever I wanted to be. In the beginning of high school this included wearing a lot of Abercrombie and dressing like all the “pretty” girls. But by junior year, I essentially said “fuck it” to pretending like I was everyone else, and instead discovered more about myself through experimenting with dress and escaping to the world of fashion, where there are no boundaries.

When I first spun around in the chair at the salon, I couldn’t help but see Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada. You know the part where she cuts her bangs and everyone does a double take? With the more drastic changes you make, you tend to feel like you can take on the world. Or at least I do.. I think I especially am reminded of Andy because I’m applying to jobs in the fashion industry and aspire to be in NYC this summer. Who knows what the next few months have in store for me, but one thing for certain is that I am ready to be bold and take on new experiences. This time I won’t have to rely on a character or merely an outfit to transform me, but I’ll be living the role I’ve always dreamed.

LOVE,
