Hectic, Healthy, Happy

December 16, 2015

urbanremedyyogaWe apologize for the brief hiatus in blogging! Patricia and I both have had a beyond hectic end of semester with work, finals, and everyday life sprinkled in between. Although this has been a very stressful time of year, this situation lends itself perfectly to today’s post. We would like to talk to you about making mindful choices while maintaining a busy schedule.

Maintaining a life that is equal parts hectic, healthy, and happy is not easy. A hectic life can often take a toll on your health and your happiness. Even when you’re working hard to chase your dream career, support your family, or just grow and develop your knowledge in an area you’re passionate about, you may find yourself happy amidst the hectic everyday but also neglect your health in the process.

urbanremedySince we’ve started the Chakra Series, the two of us have been finding ways to eat better and make healthier choices. Unfortunately, life tends to get in the way and we have found it’s easy to slip off the healthy eating train. The first thing we tend to sacrifice when the going gets rough is exercise, followed shortly by eating healthy. For so long we’ve been searching for simpler ways to continue our healthy habits even when we experience life’s most busy moments. Thankfully we heard of Urban Remedy, a line of raw, ready-to-eat snacks, meals, cold-pressed juices and energy boosting tinctures – a great way to stay healthy on a busy schedule.

sisters camiyogaWe thought it would it be awesome to try out The Beauty Kit, a 3-day set of plant-based meals, which allows you to give your body a break from inflammatory foods common to the American diet. After all, the journey to embracing inner and outer beauty starts with what you put inside your body. Our friends at Urban Remedy also believe that food is healing. They combine the best superfoods with perfectly crafted recipes to ensure you get the best nutrients for your body, without sacrificing great taste.

The three day kit includes:

Beverages: 6 packets of Beauty Tea, 3 Green Berry Shakes, 6 Youth Tinctures, 3 Glow Juices, 3 Time Machine Shakes

Salads: 1 Zen Salad, 1 Shredded Kale Salad, 1 Mediterranean Collard Wrap

Snacks: Cheesy Italian Kale Chips, Carrot Curry Crackers, and spicy lemon flavored sprouted Almonds.

Dinners: 1 Super Green Quinoa Bowl, 1 Zucchini Fettuccine Pesto, and 1 Veggie Pad Thai

And let us tell you, the food was yummyyyyyy! Also the fact that we’re both carnivores, we were slightly apprehensive about eating only vegan, raw, and gluten-free food, but everything was so delectable that to be honest we didn’t miss meat or dairy for a second because the food was THAT good!

Yoga can be especially helpful for destressing and aids with cleansing of the liver. We suggest more basic poses, like the downward dog or the various warrior positions, which are good for all levels of yoga mastery.

5 Tips to Eat Healthy When You’re Busy

1. Don’t skip breakfast- Breakfast skipping has been linked with increased risks of obesity and diabetes as well as morning moodiness.

2. Prepare foods in advance- Set time aside during the weekend to prepare snacks and meals. Purchase plastic containers that can refrigerated or frozen, so that they can be easily packed up in the morning for you to take to work.

3. Always have snacks on you- Purchase healthy snack-size foods like raisins or granola bars, so that you don’t overeat later in the day, or worse, use the vending machine.

4. Don’t eat and work- Multitasking has been proven to be disastrous to the waistline. Set your work aside and focus completely on your meal.

5. Stay hydrated- Water is essential to good health!
