I am so excited to share this look with all of you because I love to break the rules – the fashion rules that is. When I found this H&M slip dress while flipping through their latest fall catalog I knew I just had to have it. Mainly because I love lace details but also because I was intrigued by the prospect of wearing such a boudoir inspired dress outside of the bedroom. I have devised a little formula for all of you looking to make a sexy piece a bit more demure, and it applies not only to this dress but to a fitted mini skirt, a slinky cami, or a very sexy pair of heels.
The secret is balance! If you’re wearing something more skin baring on the bottom, cover up on top. A pair of sky high strappy heels will add a nice contrast to a chunky sweater and slouchy jeans. In this case, I balanced the sexy nature of the lace trim and silky fabric of the dress with a chunky loose fitting sweater. I also chose to accessorize the outfit with pieces that were more casual and playful so my look would be more daytime appropriate. I love this bubblegum inspired Kluster bracelet because it adds so much whimsy to the outfit. I also love combining olive green and pink together – they are a color match made it heaven. I paired the bracelet with this Michael Kors watch to bring out the rose gold tones in the watch.
Lastly, I went with a short heel with a sneaker inspired twist again to keep the outfit casual but interesting. But a slip dress also pairs great with a knee high or thigh high boot, keeping you warm and showing less skin.
