The most beautiful thing a woman can wear…is confidence.
So often we buy clothes and fancy new things to feel better about ourselves, but in the end cannot really change our level of confidence or ease if that confidence does not first start from within. If you’re reading this know that you are beautiful. Lately, I’ve been having a lot of conversations around body image & beauty and I’m left feeling sad more people are not ok with their being. I say “being” and not “body” because the insecurities do not end with outer beauty, but also with inner worth. A friend was telling me last night how funny it is that we as people tend to try to act (and dress) how we think others will like us, but really what people like and are attracted to is when people are being themselves. So, as hard as it is- not to mention scary- finding ways to be comfortable in your own skin is the best way to liked by others. That’s such a crazy concept when all we do is work so hard for other’s approval.
Inner worth is by far the most difficult thing to work on. You can put on a sweater dress and rock a killer pair of stiletto boots, but if you don’t love the inner person wearing it you won’t feel as sexy or as powerful as you should. I say this, but trust me I’m the one wearing this outfit and I myself struggle with the all the same issues of insecurity. Fashion has helped me to feel more confident on the outside, but I’m constantly working on being ok with what is going on in the inside. It’s a continual battle, but I’ve come a long way. Something I’m working on is focusing more on what qualities I like about myself. For me a lot of those qualities revolve around how I treat people. You cannot control how others act towards you, but you sure can control how you treat people. I challenge you to write a list of ten things that you like about yourself… Not in terms of parts of your body that you like (although you can do that too) but what are the parts of yourself that you like. Are you kind? Are you resilient? Are you humble? Remember to praise yourself for what you do well and if there are things that you need to work on, do not feel weighed down by them. Instead try to be more intentional about working on the things you wished to be better. Regardless of your flaws you are beautiful. Why? Because you were created with purpose in mind. Remember you are enough.
