There are so many methods to wash and care for your face that it can often feel overwhelming. For many, finding a skincare routine that works best for your specific skin type can feel daunting and end up costing you a lot in the long run with buying so many products in hopes that one will do the trick. We are here today to save you from this miserable guessing game and explain a stripped down beauty approach that can work for anyone.
What are you using now to wash your face? Do you have a facial cleanser or use just soap and water? If you answered yes to either, know that these two techniques are not truly doing your face any favors. Foaming facial cleansers with harsh chemicals can strip the skin of its natural oil and leave it feeling tight and dry, while plain soap and water does not have the capability of removing dirt and makeup from the skin. The solution? You need to wash your face with oil.
What we love about oil cleansing is that it has benefits for all skin types. Switching to an oil cleanser will guarantee clearer, softer, brighter skin. Another benefit of using an oil cleanser is that toners, emulsions, facial mists (hello, rose water!), and essences can then make it much farther down with the aid of facial oils. Which means your surface skin layer (the epidermis) can absorb more of all that good stuff.
What’s interesting is that the same way your body requires fatty acids and amino acids found in oily foods (e.g. “good fat”), your skin also craves these ingredients. If you’re not supplying your aging skin with enough moisture, it is likely overproducing the “bad oils” that cause breakouts in an attempt to provide this moisture for itself. Plus oils last a lot longer than other skincare products, and a little truly goes a long way. So the moral of the story is go get yourself an oil cleanser.
There are a lot of face oils on the market, but our all-time favorite is Jessica Johnson Beauty’s newest product the 3N1 Hybrid Face Oil. Made with a powerpack of 6 oils, grape seed, safflower, argan, rosehip, jojoba, and sea buckthorn, they deeply cleanse, nourish, and hydrate the skin. Inside the product is also extracts of turmeric, calendula, and St. John’s wort which work to reduce redness and inflammation. Used in combination with her T3 Hydro-active spray serum, you get all the treatment benefits of five separate products – all in two bottles. With these two products, you’ll be able to 1) remove your makeup, 2) cleanse your skin, 3) tone & hydrate, 4) strengthen & protect, and 5) nourish and calm inflammation.
The Secret to Beautiful Skin Recipe
Ingredients
/ 3N1 Hybrid Face Oil
/ T3 Hydro-active spray serum
Instructions:
- Rinse face with warm water, then pat dry.
- Dispense a nickel- to quarter-size amount of oil into palm, spread over both hands, and apply to full face and neck.
- Massage! Take a full minute to work the oil into your skin. Focus on areas of congestion (hello T-zone!) as well as areas of muscular tension (like the jaw). This is an opportunity to give your face some love, dissolve some of the tension of the day, and tend to the deeper layers of your skin by increasing circulation of blood and lymph, as you deep clean your pores.
- Warm washcloth removal! Using a washcloth (we suggest Jessica’s organic bamboo face cloth), drape it over your full face, and press the warmth into the skin. Next, remove all of the oil with the washcloth. This may require multiple passes. Be thorough but not rough. Added bonus—this gives you a bit of gentle exfoliation!
Follow with the rest of your regular nighttime skin ritual!
