DIY Rose Water Face Mist

IMG_4362Valentine’s Day serves as a reminder to love more. The focus seems to be primarily on romance but why shouldn’t it be about all the kinds of love we have in our lives, starting first with loving ourselves. Practicing self-care and respect is an act of love that benefits not only you but the hearts of everyone around you. That is why tomorrow you should put yourself first, whether or not you have a significant other.

There are many ways to show yourself love on V-Day. For instance, treat yourself to a massage, indulge in chocolate-covered strawberries, or buy yourself a bouquet of roses. Do whatever you need to feel special and cared for.

If you do in fact buy yourself roses you can reuse the petals to make a DIY rose water face mist. Besides its lovely scent and enchanting color, rosewater is filled with benefits and has been used for centuries to soothe and replenish skin. Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the redness of irritated skin and can help to get rid of acne. It helps maintain the skin’s pH balance, and also controls excess oil. Additionally, it hydrates and moisturizes giving your skin a refreshed look.

DIY Rose Water Face Mist Recipe

Ingredients

/  7 Roses
Filtered Water
2 Small Spray Bottles
Rose Essential Oil

Instructions:

  1. Start by taking the petals off each rose. An easy way to do this is to hold the base of the petals and carefully tear the stem off. The petals should separate easily.
  2.  Place petals in a large pot and cover with filtered water. Only add enough water to cover the roses. Press gently on the rose petals to submerge them.
  3. Turn stove to medium heat and bring to a boil. Cover the pot and let simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the petals have fully lost their color.
  4. Place the strainer over a large bowl and pour rose water into the strainer. Cover rose water and let cool.
  5.  To assemble face mists, add 1 oz rose water for every 3 oz water to spray bottle. Add 4-5 drops of the rose essential oil and screw on lid. Shake to distribute to the oil and mix the rose water.
